Also, hundreds of studies have shown that interval training is by far the most effective training method to improve your endurance, speed, and overall aerobic capacity.  For instance, a 2005 study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that after just two weeks of interval training, six of the eight college-age men and women doubled their endurance, or the amount of time they could work at moderate intensity before exhaustion. Eight volunteers in the control group, who did not do any interval training, showed no improvement in endurance.

Researchers at McMaster University in had the exercisers sprint for 30 seconds, then either stop or continue gently for four minutes. A dramatic improvement in endurance was noticed after only 15 minutes of intense intervals spread over two weeks.
 
On May 2, 2007 The New York Times released an article touting the benefits of interval training. Here's a sample of what was said:

"...new findings suggest that for at least one workout a week it pays to be both tortoise and hare — alternating short bursts of high-intensity exercise with easy-does-it recovery...This alternating fast-slow technique, called interval training, is hardly new. For decades, serious athletes have used it to improve performance...Best of all, the benefits become evident in a matter of weeks. "

Experience from our runners and numerous scientific studies have shown this to be the case because of the interval training structure of the Treadmill Trainer workouts! 
 
Intervals allow you to run faster and spend more time at a higher percentage of your maximum heart rate (causing you to intake more oxygen) which means that you burn more calories (and fat) because you burn 5 calories for every liter of oxygen that you consume. 
 
And what that really means is that you get to spend less time running while benefiting from greater fat-burning results!
 
I say that because over the past 30 years an arsenal of studies have shown that interval training burns more calories, fat, and boosts your metabolism for up to 24 hours after an interval workout as short as 20 minutes!  For instance, a 2006 study from the Journal of Applied Physiology that showed with as few as 7 interval training workouts women showed marked reductions in body fat and blood fat levels!  In fact, after interval training, the amount of fat they burned in one hour of exercise increased by 36 percent!
 
Researchers from an earlier study in the journal Metabolism revealed that interval training is more favourable to burning fat compared to long duration, slow cardio. 
 
I could go on but I'm sure you catch my drift.
 
So in your opinion, do you think that spending less time running while getting twice the fat burning effects makes sense for you?

And how often are running courses always flat when you run outside? Almost never! Therefore, to get the best possible results, it's important to train your body to excel at running up hills.
 
All of the Treadmill Trainer™ iPod/MP3 running workouts you just read about are designed for treadmill and outdoor use.
 
Hill Runner 1 and 2 are specifically designed to be enjoyed on the treadmill ONLY. Usually, runing a constant incline is near impossible in an outdoor setting. That's why these leg-pumping hill workouts are best for the treadmill.
 
If you enjoy running hills, then you will absolutely love this workout. I personally love running hills and inclines because they are - by far - the best way to improve your running performance, aerobic endurance, running power, and one of the most effective means of burning calories.

Hill Runner 2 is slightly more challenging than its predecessor in that during this workout you'll be running at an incline of between 8-12% (you choose) interspersed with recovery bouts at 1% inclination.
 
And because of its length and challenging nature Hill Runner 2 is also considered a 3-in-1 workout. Completing the entire workout will run you about 65 minutes!
 
And as you probably are aware of by now hill training greatly enhances your running economy, functional strength, lactate threshold, and VO2max. (don't worry - I explain these in more detail during the workout!). These basically make you an incredibly fast and endurant runner!

"I bought Treadmill Trainer Volume 3 to get me to the 12k in 47 minutes. The first time I tried it-it nearly killed me! I guess I was still running at full capacity right from the off instead of easing in gently as you suggested.
 
On my second attempt I tried to do as I was told, sure enough I was still kicking in too hard too early but I completed the run and didn't feel too bad. The secret is to know your individual effort level-50%,75%,etc and apply these as and when you are instructed to.
 
My third attempt was nearly perfect. It wasn't easy but I did a full 12k before the end of the 47 minute program and could still function afterwards.
 
I felt really good!

"Hi Yuri, I decided to download and use your program Treadmill Trainer Volume 4 after a city half-marathon in Munich. I finished sucessfully but wasn't too happy about my speed of 02:03:21 hours for 21,0 km on a completely flat course under nice weather conditions.
 
Endurance is not the problem but I had the feeling that I just couldn't go faster than my everyday's same training speed. As I read and heard many times  that interval-training is the key for speed enhancement I decided to buy your Treadmill Trainer 4 program.
 
I used it for around 2 weeks and finished another half-marathon race last Sunday. I finished 21,1 km in 02:00:30!  While it might seem only a little improvement it is a very big one in fact. This last race was in the Austrian mountains at 1000 m above sea level with a total incline of 200 m up.
